Columbus Web Site Changes
Beginning Friday, October 31, 2008, the
City of Columbus will begin making significant changes
to its web sites to better serve residents and customers.
Changes to the site will include appearance,
functionality, navigation and will be phased in
throughout the rest of the year. During this critical
time, there may be some periodic short-term outages and
we ask you to please be patient as we improve our
systems to better serve your needs.

Mayor Asks Citizens to Use Safety Precautions in Wake of Wind Storm
Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman is urging citizens to keep safe in the wake of high winds that have damaged property, uprooted trees and left tens of thousands of Central Ohio homes without power. Citizens should stay inside their homes as much as possible and, when on the road, drive slowly and cautiously. Inoperative traffic lights should be treated as four-way-stops. People should keep a safe distance from damaged power lines and report them as emergencies by calling 911.

Mayor, City Council, Neighborhood Leaders Launch Citizens for Strong Neighborhoods and Good Jobs
Neighborhood leaders joined Mayor Michael B. Coleman and City Council members today to launch Citizens for Strong Neighborhoods and Good Jobs, which will advance the $1.66 billion, 6-issue, 2008 Voted Bond Package that will be on the November 4 ballot. With voter approval, Issues 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 will drive new investment into neighborhoods and to create thousands of new jobs in construction and in growing private industries.

Community Relations Commission Director Stowe
James L. Stowe, executive director of the Columbus Community Relations Commission, is stepping down from his post and relocating to Maryland, where he will be director for the Montgomery County Office of Human Rights. Stowe has served as executive director of the Commission since its inception in 1992. The agency provides leadership to the people of Columbus toward educating the citizens about cultural diversity, identifying and resolving community tensions and eliminating discrimination.

Neighborhood Stabilization Program
As a result of the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008, the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), is allocating $3.92 billion nationally to particularly hard-hit areas trying to respond to the effects of high foreclosures. HUD?s new Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) will provide targeted emergency assistance to acquire and redevelop foreclosed properties that might otherwise become sources of abandonment and blight.

The Office of the Environmental Steward was created as part of Mayor Michael B. Coleman's Get Green Columbus initiative. Funded in part with a grant from the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio, the Environmental Steward's Office is dedicated to making Columbus a green community.
